Lip blush in Makati, also called lip tattoo

A wash of colour inside your own lip line that evens the tone, sharpens the border and stays for two to three years. Kate Kanner picks the pigment against your lips, draws the shape, shows you both, and starts only when you say yes.

Healed lip blush in a muted rose by Kate Kanner, Makati

What the colour does once it heals

Lip pigment goes into the skin, not onto it, so the healed shade is the pigment seen through your own lip colour. This is the fact behind most unhappy lip blush stories. A warm coral chosen from a chart heals muted on naturally pigmented lips, because the lip’s own tone shows through it. Kate mixes against your lips, in daylight, and shows you the mix on the skin before any needle. On lips with a purple or brown base she will tell you that neutralization has to come first, or the blush will heal dull no matter which colour you pick.

Shape comes before colour

Kate measures and draws the lip border with a pencil, checks it with your mouth relaxed and smiling, and hands you the mirror. She works inside your natural line or a hair outside it. Lip blush is not filler: it cannot add volume, and a border drawn far outside the lip heals as an obvious outline. A client who had lip tattoo done five times before wrote in her review that this was the first time anyone had shown her the shape first.

The session

  1. Mapping and colour. About thirty minutes of drawing, checking and mixing.
  2. Numbing. Cream on the lips for twenty minutes, then a second application once the skin is open. Lips are the most sensitive of the three areas; the second numbing removes most of it.
  3. Pigment. Passes of fine dots, first the border, then the body of the lip, building an even wash. About an hour.
  4. Photos and aftercare. You leave with the balm, the written rules and a photo of the fresh colour, which will be far brighter than the result.

Healing, day by day

Days 1 to 2. Swollen and bright, like lipstick a shade too strong. Days 3 to 5. Colour looks darker, then the surface dries and starts to flake. Days 5 to 8. Flaking finishes and the colour looks pale, sometimes almost gone. Weeks 2 to 4. The colour returns from underneath as the skin settles. Week 4. The true result. Weeks 6 to 8. The retouch visit, which evens anything that healed lighter.

Aftercare

  • Balm every few hours for the first week. Lips must not dry out and crack.
  • No spicy, hot or salty food for five days. Drink through a straw for the first two.
  • No lipstick or gloss for ten days. No kissing for five.
  • Do not pick the flakes. They take pigment with them.
  • No sun on the lips and no whitening toothpaste around them for two weeks.

Who should wait, or prepare first

If you get cold sores, any needle work on the lip can trigger one. Ask your doctor for the antiviral you normally take and start it before the session; tell Kate at the consultation. If you have lip filler, wait four weeks after your last injection so the outline is stable. Pregnant or breastfeeding: wait. Active cracks, infection or a fresh peel on the lips: wait until they have healed.

What lip clients say

I've had lip tattoo around 5 times before. Kate did the best job by far. I appreciated that she measured my lip outline and showed me how the shape would look before she began coloring, unlike others in the past who would start coloring

I had my lips done with permanent makeup, and honestly, it's one of the best things I've ever done! I absolutely love the result and can't stop admiring it. The shape, color, and overall outcome exceeded all my expectations.

Questions about lip blush

What colour will my lips heal to?

The healed shade is the pigment seen through your own lip colour, so a warm pigment on naturally dark lips heals muted. Kate picks the colour against your lips, not from a chart, and shows you the mix before she starts.

Will it look like lipstick?

No. Healed lip blush looks like your lips after a day at the beach: even, a little richer, with a defined edge. You can still wear lipstick over it.

How much swelling and downtime?

Lips swell for one to two days and feel dry for about a week while they flake. Most clients go to work the next day. The colour looks bright for three days, then fades by about half, then settles by week four.

I get cold sores. Can I still do it?

Yes, with preparation. Any needle work on the lip can trigger an outbreak, so ask your doctor for the antiviral you normally use and start it before the session. Tell Kate at the consultation.

How long does lip blush last?

Two to three years, with a colour boost around the eighteen-month mark if you want it vivid. Lips renew fast, so they fade sooner than brows.

I have lip filler. When can I book?

Four weeks after your last filler, so the swelling has gone and the outline is stable. Filler after lip blush is fine once the lips have healed.

My lips are dark or uneven. Is lip blush enough?

Sometimes not. Dark or purple tones need neutralization first, or the blush colour heals dull. Kate checks this at the consultation.
