Permanent makeup before a wedding: how far ahead to book
Brides book brows and lips for the same reason they book a dress fitting: they want to look like themselves on the day, only finished. The mistake is booking it the way you book a facial, a week or two before. Permanent makeup is at its worst in the second week and at its best after the retouch. So the calendar matters more than the technique.
The timeline that works
- Four months before: consultation. Twenty minutes, free. We map the shape, choose colours against your skin and lip tone, and plan the order if you want more than one area. This is also when I check for anything that changes timing: filler, peels, acne treatments, a history of cold sores.
- Three to four months before: the sessions. Brows first, because they frame everything. Lips and eyeliner can be done in the same week or the next. Each area heals on its own schedule: three days bold, a week of flaking, a pale week, the true colour by week four.
- Six to eight weeks after each session: the retouch. Fills what healed lighter and refines the shape now that you have lived with it. This is the visit that turns ninety per cent into finished.
- Four weeks after the retouch: the makeup trial. Your makeup artist sees the real base, and the trial is planned around brows and lips that will still look the same on the day.
- The wedding. Healed, settled, and photographing like well-applied makeup rather than like a fresh tattoo.
The latest safe dates
One area: three months before the wedding. Two or three areas: four months. Those dates leave room for the retouch and a full heal after it, with two weeks to spare. Booking closer than that means choosing between skipping the retouch and walking down the aisle in the flaking stage. Two weeks before is a no; I will say so at the consultation and offer a date after the honeymoon instead.
What brides ask most
Will it look natural in photos? Healed permanent makeup photographs as makeup, softer than the fresh version. Fresh work photographs darker and sharper, which is the reason for the three-month rule.
Can my makeup artist work over it? Yes. Healed pigment sits under the skin, so foundation, brow products and lipstick go on as usual. Most brides need less of each, and their artist finishes faster.
Can I still do facials and peels before the wedding? Facials yes, away from the treated area for the first month. Peels, retinol and acids stay off the brows and lips for a month after each session; they exfoliate pigment along with skin.
What about the honeymoon? Sun and sea water fade fresh pigment. If the honeymoon is within a month of a session, wear sunscreen on the brows and lips and keep the first week dry. Better still, book so the retouch has healed before you fly.
Working back from your date
Take a wedding on 20 February. The consultation goes in October. Brows and lips are done in the first half of November. The retouches fall in late December, which leaves the holidays for healing. The makeup trial goes in late January, on brows and lips that have settled. Nothing new touches your face in February.
Move the dates with your own wedding and keep the gaps. If the arithmetic leaves less than three months between the first session and the day, choose one area now and the rest after the honeymoon.
A brow or lash lift for the wedding week
A lift is the one treatment that belongs close to the day. I lift and tint your own lashes, or brush your brow hairs up and tint them, in one visit with no pigment in the skin. Book it a few days before the wedding so the curl has settled and you have seen it in the mirror. It lasts until those hairs grow out, so it covers the honeymoon too. Brow lift and tint is ₱2,499, lash lift and tint ₱2,499.
If you had a brow tattoo, the lift waits until the tattoo and its retouch have healed; lift solution on healing skin can pull pigment out.
What it costs for a bride
Brows are ₱14,990 and lip blush ₱14,990, each with the retouch included. A classic lash line is ₱7,990. If your lips are dark and need neutralization first, the neutralization and lip blush package is ₱24,990. The full list is on the prices page.
The order I recommend
Brows, then lips, then eyeliner if you want all three. Brows change the face most and take the longest to judge. Lips heal fastest but are the most sensitive, so they go on a day you can rest. A classic lash line is the least visible and the easiest to fit in last; it is also the one I suggest to brides who want eyes that look awake in photos without any obvious liner.
What to bring to the consultation
A photo of your everyday makeup, a photo of the look you want on the day, and the wedding date. From those three I can tell you whether the calendar works and what to book first. The consultation is free; the services are on the brows, lips and eyeliner pages.
Questions from brides
What is the latest I can book before the wedding?
Three months before the date for one area, four if you want brows, lips and eyes. That covers the session, the six to eight week retouch and a full heal after it. Two weeks before is too late; you would walk down the aisle in the flaking stage.
Will the colour look right in photos?
Healed permanent makeup photographs like well-applied makeup, softer than the fresh version. Fresh work photographs darker and sharper, which is another reason to book early rather than the month of.
Can my makeup artist work over it on the day?
Yes. Healed pigment sits under the skin, so foundation, brow products and lipstick go on top as usual. Most brides need less product and their artist finishes faster.
Should I do a trial with my makeup artist before or after the permanent makeup?
After the retouch has healed, so the artist sees the real base. A trial done before will be planned around brows and lips that no longer look the same.
Can I get a lash lift right before the wedding?
Yes, a few days before is the right time. A lash or brow lift has no pigment in the skin, so it needs no healing window. I lift and tint your own lashes or brows in one visit.
