Lip neutralization in Makati

For lips that are dark, purple, brown or two different colours. Kate Kanner uses warm corrective pigments to cancel the cool tone over two to three sessions, so the lips read as one even, natural colour, on their own or as the base for lip blush.

Lips after neutralization and blush by Kate Kanner, Makati

Lip neutralization or lip blush?

They answer different questions. Lip neutralization is a plan for dark or uneven lip tone. Lip blush, also called lip tattoo, adds a wash of colour and defines the border. Kate assesses the natural lip tone at the consultation before deciding whether neutralization needs to come first.

Who this is for

Naturally dark lips are common on Filipino skin and nothing is wrong with them. Neutralization is for people who want the tone lighter and even: a purple or blue cast across both lips, a brown upper lip and a pink lower one, dark corners, or the darkening that comes with smoking. It is also the first step Kate insists on before lip blush whenever the base would turn a blush colour muddy. Kate explains the plan at the consultation so you can decide whether neutralization alone or the combined package fits your goal.

Why the pigments are orange

Colour correction works the way a makeup artist’s colour wheel works. Orange cancels blue, yellow cancels purple, peach cancels grey. Kate places warm corrective pigment into the dark areas so the cool tone underneath stops showing through. For the first week the lips look warmer than you expect, sometimes plainly orange. As the skin heals over the pigment the warmth settles and the lip reads as neutral. This is the part people are not warned about elsewhere, so it is written here.

Sessions and timeline

  1. Consultation. Kate looks at the lips in daylight and tells you how many sessions to expect. Two is common, three for dark or smoker’s lips.
  2. First session. Mapping, numbing, then corrective pigment across the dark areas. This session does most of the visible work.
  3. Six to eight weeks later. Second session, evening out the parts that healed lighter and adjusting the warmth.
  4. Then, if you want colour. Once the base is even, a lip blush in the shade you chose heals true, because there is no longer a dark tone under it.

Healing

The same rhythm as lip blush: swollen and bright for two days, flaking by day five, pale by day eight, settled by week four. Balm often, no picking, no spicy or hot food for five days, no lipstick for ten. If you get cold sores, start your usual antiviral before the session.

What neutralization will not do

It does not bleach the lips or make them pink. It cancels the cool tone so the natural colour underneath reads clean, and it stays inside your lip line. Lightening creams and peels work on the surface and fade back within weeks; pigment sits under the surface and stays. It will not fix darkness that comes from a medical cause, and if Kate suspects one she will say so and send you to a doctor first.

Who should wait

Pregnant or breastfeeding: wait. Active cracks, cold sores or a peel on the lips in the last month: wait until healed. Lip filler: four weeks after your last injection. Smokers can go ahead, with the timeline above.

What lip clients say

I've had lip tattoo around 5 times before. Kate did the best job by far. I appreciated that she measured my lip outline and showed me how the shape would look before she began coloring, unlike others in the past who would start coloring

Questions about neutralization

Who needs lip neutralization?

Anyone whose lips are dark, purple, brown or two-toned and who wants them to read as one even, warmer colour. It is also the first step when a lip blush colour would otherwise heal muddy.

How many sessions?

Usually two or three, six to eight weeks apart. The first session does most of the visible work; the later ones even out the parts that healed lighter.

Will my lips look orange at first?

For the first week, yes, warmer than you expect. Corrective pigments are orange and yellow based because those tones cancel blue and purple. As they heal they settle into a neutral, natural lip.

Can I have lip blush after neutralization?

Yes, and that is the usual plan: neutralize first, then add the blush colour once the base is even. Some clients stop after neutralization because the natural tone is what they wanted.

I smoke. Does that matter?

Smoking is one reason lips darken and it slows healing. Neutralization still works; Kate will tell you at the consultation how many sessions to expect.

How long do the results last?

The correction itself is long lasting, because the pigment under the dark tone stays. A colour boost every couple of years keeps it even.
